Our History

Providing Warth & Support since 1960

Founded in 1960 by the Shawnee Mission Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), the Johnson County Christmas Bureau began as an "Adopt a Family" program. Growth in the number of clients and a desire to treat all families equitably resulted in the transition to the Holiday Shop concept in 1977. Our basic principles include a centralized location, selection of goods that meet individual family needs, making sure children's needs are met, pre-qualification of clients, scheduled appointments to shop, and giving clients the opportunity to select their own merchandise. JCCB remains the only countywide agency that provides holiday assistance from newborn to nursing home across multiple product lines.
